When you decide to go out and read in the park because it's a nice day, but then your book turns out to be funny and makes you give a bizarre, snorty, chokey-sounding laugh, and people around you give you weird looks 🤔. Seriously people, is someone reading something funny the strangest thing you've ever seen? If so, you must live dull lives indeed.

I've been wanting a new book from @sarahaddisonallen since her last one came out, in 2015. I just finished Other Birds and I definitely felt like it was worth the wait. I love how books sometimes seem to find us when we need them. This was what I needed to read this week.

For the past few weeks I've been participating in an online read-along of The Wind in the Willows. Since I took some photos of my copy to share with the group, I figured I'd post them here too, since today is #worldbookday.

I was today years old when I learned that there's a @strandbookstore kiosk outside Central Park.

In late 2022, I started reading Eleanor Catton's Booker Prize winning novel, The Luminaries. I quickly put it aside. At the time I really wanted an absorbing, easy read, and this was not that! But in early 2023, I learned that @bernie.lombardi was going to host a read-along of the novel. I figured I'd revisit it with the help of a schedule and the support of a group.

I've recently discovered @sleepybookshelfpod and I love it. Sometimes I have trouble falling asleep because my mind is still running. When that happens, these audiobooks for sleep divert my mind enough so that I can drift off. The books are, for the most part, gentle stories. Some are aimed at younger readers, some older, some are long, some are short. But if it's a longer book that's read over a number of episodes, there's always a detailed summary of the last installment before each new episode, so no worries if you fall asleep halfway through. Each episode begins with a short moment of relaxation. The reader also has a soothing voice that lulls you to sleep.
